Blake Landry is the manager of economic research and analysis with Niagara Region Economic Development. Even though I work in real estate across Niagara, there's a lot going on in the economy I don't see, so I was looking forward to this one.
What we covered
- Blake's background. Seven years in his current role, and an earlier stint at the Region too.
- Why industry matters. Businesses generate tax revenue that takes pressure off homeowners. In places like Wainfleet, with little industry, residents carry more of the load.
- GTA buyers. When I started 10 years ago, a GTA buyer was rare. Then the pandemic brought a big influx.
- Exports. Niagara's exports grew from about $4.7 billion before the pandemic to about $8.2 billion by 2022.
- The slowdown. Unemployment has ticked up, but companies are still looking to invest.
A great primer on Niagara's economy for buyers, sellers and business owners. Thanks, Blake.
