Health Happenings Week 50: The First Step That Changed Everything
Week 50 of Health Happenings. Holy moly, 50 weeks already. It's too windy outside, so we came in to record, and this week I'm doing something different. Instead of recapping everything I did, I want to go back to the beginning.
Where it started
When I started, I weighed a whopping 251.8 pounds. I wasn't exercising and I didn't care what I ate. Getting started on a weight loss journey is hard. So what was the most important thing I did first?
Walking one hour a day
Something as simple as walking for an hour a day. With my business, my family and my friends, I wasn't sure I could find an hour every day. Fast forward to now and we find that time, but it took adjustment.
That daily walk did tremendous things for me. It got me into the routine of exercising, and that routine helped propel healthier eating and a better mindset. It led to better food, more exercise and eventually yogging.
How I found the time
I'd love to exercise early in the morning, but it doesn't always work that way. It's about prioritizing your day. Once I committed to myself that I was walking an hour a day, I found the opportunities. Even if it was late at night.
Don't dive in all at once
What I'm doing now isn't what I started with. I didn't jump straight into weights, jogging, walking and chasing step counts. I started with one change, and the rest followed.
This week
Ten exercise sessions in seven days. Last week 181.8, this week 180.8. Not a huge loss, but a loss, and we're on the cusp of breaking 180 again. I hope to stay below it forever.
