Before the Happenings Podcast had its own room, I was a guest on Your City, Your Voice, a show on Niagara Falls internet radio station 4680Q hosted by Paul K. Lemire. This one kicks off the podcast playlist because it's where a lot of these long-form conversations started for me.
What we talked about
- How the food reviews actually work. Paul asked the question I get all the time: do I just walk into a restaurant and say "I'm Joe, I'm doing a show here"? We got into how the reviews come together and how generous a lot of restaurants are with what they bring out.
- Honest reviews. If something isn't good, do I say so? We talked about being fair, being honest and respecting the people who put their work on the plate.
- Filming in a packed restaurant. Sometimes a whole dining room goes quiet to watch a review happen. It's a strange feeling, and I could never be a golfer for that exact reason.
- Restaurants and the internet. Before I go anywhere I pull up the menu online. If a restaurant doesn't have a website, it might want to think about one.
Why listen
It's a laid-back, funny conversation, plus a few vacation stories, and a good look at where the food content was in early 2019. Thanks to Paul, Todd on the board and the whole 4680Q crew for having me.
