Health Happenings Week 21: Surviving a Cottage Weekend
Week 21. Over five months on this journey. It's beautiful out, so today I'm filming at the Wainfleet recreation facility, where Alright Robyn and I have been playing tennis lately.
The worry
The past few weeks I haven't dropped as much as I'd hoped. We had my birthday weekend, a heavy review weekend with food I couldn't stop eating, and then right up until the last minute I was scheduled to work this weekend. Instead, Alright Robyn and some friends and I headed to a cottage. When you cottage for the weekend, the last thing on your mind is Health Happenings. It's BBQ and adult pops.
What happened at the cottage
I actually avoided most of the alcohol. The food was another story. We ate charcuterie almost the entire weekend: meats, sausages, chorizo, Gouda, spicy cheese, cheese with cranberries. Delicious.
Cottage cardio
But we stayed active. Some of the best cardio I've had in a long time was swimming in Stoney Lake. There was a diving board right off the dock and we swam lengths along the shore. We hiked a trail out to the mainland, went for walks along the cottage road, and got a couple of runs in too (no camera, but they happened).
The result
If my math is right, that's about 3.6 pounds down this week, and roughly 55 pounds down overall. After a food-heavy weekend and a couple of weeks with less movement, that's a big win. I went to bed last night thinking this might be my first up week. It wasn't.
The lesson: you can enjoy a weekend away. Just keep moving.
