Health Happenings Week 24: Six Months and Chasing 190
Week 24 is the start of six months on Health Happenings. Six months ago I tipped the scale at over 250 pounds and hadn't exercised in nearly a decade. Last week I was aiming to cross the 190 barrier so we could have a pizza party from Luciano's Pizzeria in Welland, the number one pizza on the Welland Pizza Detour. To help myself out, I got a haircut. Did I cheat? Watch the weigh-in and find out.
King of the court
This week the Right Choice team was back on the tennis courts. This time we actually played games of king of the court. Everybody won a few, but Kevin Murphy was the king for most of the night.
Running and barbecuing
I got out for two 5K runs plus my walks. The barbecue has been put to good use too. At Sunday dinner, the minute I sat down at Mom's I was put on barbecue duty: steaks, sausages, hot dogs, and some grilled zucchini and fennel.
What's next: weights
I want to start lifting again soon. I'm not sure what's happening with the gyms, so I'm looking at setting up a small spot in the Right Choice bullpen that the whole team can use. Nothing fancy, just a step up from bodyweight workouts.
"How did you do it?"
People keep asking. It's simple: exercise and eat right. Some say eating right is 70% of it, some say 80 or 90. Either way it's helped a ton. I still eat the foods that aren't so healthy, just in moderation.
And next week, I'm indulging in Luciano's pizza and wings. Will I go crazy, or have a couple of slices and feel like garbage? We'll see.
