Health Happenings Week 8: Training Through a Pandemic
Week 8 of Health Happenings, and as you can see, I'm not in the car heading to Forge Fitness. With everything going on in the world, we're practicing physical distancing to keep ourselves, our families and everyone around us safe. But this journey isn't stopping. We're adapting.
Video call coaching
Zac Spinosa is at Forge, I'm at Right Choice HQ, and he's coaching me through the workout over a video call. Zac joked that everybody came in and took all his weights before the shutdown. I've got a pair of 15 pound dumbbells that Alright Robyn dug out of a closet, and that's enough.
Chasing the 220s
My goal coming into this week was to see 229.8 on the scale, a 20 pound drop. Losing over three pounds in a week is doable, but it's not easy. So Zac made a modification: on the two days I run, I now also do my one hour walk. A little extra happenings.
The workout
Here's what we hit with the 15 pounders: bench dumbbell straight leg deadlifts, push-ups (which I can now actually do), standing dumbbell rows, 21s for the biceps, bench dips, and a superset of crunches and full planks to finish. Zac's at-home demo this week was a bent-over row, using his little sister as the weight. No excuses.
Use the extra time
A lot of us suddenly have more time right now: no commute, fewer events, more time at home. A great way to spend it is on your own health. Two months ago I was in the worst shape of my life. I'm not in the best shape yet, but I'm improving. Wherever you are, if you want to talk about it, hit me up in the DMs. This whole journey has re-sparked my passion for health.
