How to Make a Healthy Smoothie for Weight Loss

By Joe GonzalezMar 19, 2021 · Health Happenings

For the past year I've been talking about how important whole foods have been in my diet. Today, instead of talking about it, I'm showing you. This smoothie is my second most popular breakfast after the overnight oats.

Ingredients

  • Frozen mixed berries (we get a triple berry mix from Costco)
  • A handful of greens, like kale
  • A banana (frozen if you have one)
  • Chia seeds and flax seeds
  • Dark cocoa powder
  • Cinnamon
  • A small splash of apple cider vinegar
  • Water

Method

Dump it all in the blender, add water and blend. That's it. Easy game. Like all recipes, I don't follow measurements very closely.

Tips

  • Freeze your bananas. When bananas get too ripe, break them in pieces and freeze them for smoothies. They make it thick and cold without ice.
  • Cocoa plus banana. Cocoa on its own isn't sweet, but mixed with banana it gives the smoothie great flavour with no added sugar.
  • Go easy on the vinegar. A little adds some tang. Too much and you'll regret it.
  • Hold the lid. The last thing you want is to spend your day cleaning smoothie off the ceiling.

My Blendtec is about ten years old with over a thousand blends on it and still going. Whatever blender you have, this works. Watch the video to see how it comes together.
